    "HORSEMANSHIP FROM THE HEART"

    "What brings softness

    and understanding

    between horse and

    rider is clarity."

    - Julie

Julie Carpenter’s experiences as a horse trainer, yoga instructor and life coach have served to make her uniquely qualified to offer riders from all walks of life a way to better their partnership with their horse. Julie offers one on one lessons, clinics and retreats, and is dedicated to helping her students and their horses.

When a horse's thought is more important than the rider's thought, resistance builds. When there is clarity in what a horse is being asked, a horse can learn to let go of a thought – to relax and submit willingly to a rider’s direction. When the horse is not resisting, muscles can relax and stretch, allowing the horse’s overall development and balance to occur naturally.

Julie has applied this philosophy to her approach to horsemanship. She has learned, not only is it important for a rider to communicate in a way that provides clarity and is not troubling to the horse, that riders also grow and benefit as they learn these principles.

All of these elements have led to Julie’s development of, and foundation for, Horsemanship from the Heart.

  • ABOUT

Having pursued her passion for horses for the last thirty years, Julie considers herself a student of the horse. She is committed to further defining and refining her skills as she continues to learn from the horses and her peers.

    PHILOSOPHY

Julie has found that many horses that have been ridden for years often have underlying worries that can cause problems for their riders. Others have never been “started” and just need to be introduced to a human-horse relationship. These experiences, along with her own horsemanship abilities, have resulted in the development of Horsemanship from the Heart.

Both her horsemanship and Life Coaching clients benefit from her keen desire to help people. She connects with each student in an atmosphere of positive energy, inspiration, clarity, enthusiasm and love. Her goal is to assist clients in identifying and developing their own inner strengths to more fully enjoy life.

The cornerstone of Julie’s approach to horsemanship is clear and honest communication, with the intention of helping the horse to understand the rider’s request without causing worry in the horse. Julie breaks down each skill into its most simple part, offering encouragement and support to each student through the process of learning and improving these skills.

This is an ongoing process that builds trust, confidence, understanding and communication between rider and horse.

    FOR THE HORSE

Julie makes sure the basics are firmly in place before asking more of a horse. In that way, the horse (and rider) develop confidence in successfully negotiating the little things before undertaking larger tasks or challenges.

    FOR THE RIDER

Julie incorporates exercises designed to build confidence and develop relaxation in the rider in much the same way as she does the horse. While some may be reluctant to embrace yoga exercises in helping them to better horsemanship, Julie points out that it is not about how flexible you are. Flexibility may be one of the benefits attained, but her overall goal is to teach you how to identify, recognize and leverage your own inner strength that culminates in a successful partnership with your horse.

"My friend suggested I check out Julie

and I started and unexpected journey

    of the heart, mind

and spirit. My horses and I are in such

    a great spot now.

I never would have found it without Julie."

  • SERVICES

    Private Lessons

Whether the owner chooses to observe, engage in discussion and question/answer while Julie works with the horse, or prefers to receive instruction during a private lesson or participate in a clinic, horses and owners undertake the learning process together. This creates a solid foundation and building of confidence as horse and rider progress.

    Six Day Intensive Clinic

Participating in an "Intensive" clinic with your horse is a unique experience and a best of both worlds way for both you and your horse to progress forward in training and horsemanship! They are an intense, immersion experience, limited to five horses and riders, and a small number of auditors. Julie will work your horse for the first four days of the clinic. As she helps your horses to learn to let go of a thought and take on the ideas of what she's presenting to them, you'll see more relaxation, softness and responsiveness start to come through in your horse. The final two days of the intensive clinic, it'll be your turn to work with your horse while Julie coaches you through feeling and understanding the new things she's helped your horse with.

    Yoga Horsemanship Retreat

The yogi principles of balance, alignment, stillness and being in the present moment all benefit rider and horse. These Retreats have proved popular and beneficial to Julie’s students, and are designed to welcome all skill levels.

"What makes Julie such a great trainer is her ability to train the person as well as the horse. I have never seen a trainer who

    is as patient and kind

    to both halves of

    the equation."
