Building relationships,
opening the lines of compassionate
communication between humans and their equines...
Providing the qualities listed above, Christa works together with you and your horse to help create a relationship and partnership based on mutual respect and understanding.  Horsemanship from the Heart™ is based, not on technique or manoeuvers, but on the frame of mind and observations of those "leading" the horse.  It's not a "cue-response" system but a system of asking and receiving, giving and taking, speaking and listening.

  • Consultations ~ Meet with Christa and your horse to assess the best step forward.  Discover what's been working and what's been standing in the way of a solid, leadership-based relationship between you and your horse.  Christa will watch you work with your horse and offer you tips and guidance towards your desired goals or help you to set them. Only $60.00! (limited time offer!)

  • Starting ~ Providing horses with a good first experience in their role under saddle. Helping them to build confidence and security when it comes to carrying a saddle and human and sorting out the basics of what cues mean.  Starting will get your horse to a place where they understand the basics of the natural aids: Hand, Leg, Voice, Seat, Eyes and Energy.

  • Continuing ~ Taking horses from their basics after starting to an understanding of Walk, Trot and Lope/Canter.  Once a horse has been started and has built up confidence of what each of the aids is for, continuing training will help them to find a steady, even gait at the Walk, Trot and Lope/Canter.  It will also get them more comfortable with lateral work such as pivots and side passing.

  • Confidence ~ Giving the horse an understanding of how to deal with the things that may cause him fear.  As a prey animal, horses prefer not to take risks.  Confidence training helps to provide your horse with a greater sense of security and trust when being asked to do something outside their comfort zone. By working with tarps, bridges, crossing water, logs or other trail obstacles you can broaden your horse's area of comfort and give your horse a greater sense  of "Yes, I can."

  • Trouble Shooting ~ Exploring specific challenges or habits that your horses may be experiencing or using to express themselves.  Many horses develop bad or undesirable habits as a result of physical pain or miscommunication.  Trouble-shooting will help to get to the bottom of the cause of the undesirable behavior and hopefully offer a solution that will help both the horse and human.

Training Timeline

There is a fine line between giving  a horse enough time "in school" and giving them too much.  For this reason, horses in full training are worked with for 4-5 days per week.  On one of these days we work together with the owner to help provide consistency.  Any less often and it becomes a challenge to provide enough practice to give the horse a new way of being.  More often and it becomes easy to sour or disengage their interest.

It is also important to provide each horse with enough consistency to allow them to rely upon their new set of rules and expectations.  For this reason it is recommended that when you bring your horse for training you plan to give them a minimum of 3 months "in school"  which will allow for around 60 days of training.  For 90 days of  training, 5 months in suggested and this will give your horse 100 days "in school".

Testimonials

~We've been boarding and training at Silver Star Stables for a few months now and I couldn't even dream about a better home for us. Thanks to Christa's help and tremendous teaching ability we've already came a long way. I'm learning to be a leader for my horse, to listen and to respect his opinion in a way that is safe for both of us; we both learn to trust each other again and to enjoy each other's company.

~It was wonderful to see you at the Mane Event!   Occasionally you meet a person who makes a difference in your life! I am very happy to have had the opportunity to train with you and have you work with two of our horses: Shylow and Cash.  These horses have entirely different personalities. Your training methods for each have lent itself to a wonderful learning experience for both the horse and the rider.  I truly hope we have the opportunity to work with you again!
    Thank you,

~I am very happy with the training my horse received, and all the instruction that I received as well.  With Christa’s guidance he transformed from a very nervous horse, afraid of everything to a horse with confidence.  With the sensitive ways of my horse, and he is very sensitive, Christa’s gift of being able to feel of the horse and for the horse, I believe led to his success.  She has a beautiful ability to read the horse and a deep knowing of the way they think.  Her innate ability to feel when the horse is ready to learn earns their respect, and is really something to witness.  She is always thinking ahead, and acting in the best interest of the horse at every moment.  The way she sets them up for success combined with her timing in working with a horse, I think is true horsemanship at its best.  Christa is calm, confident and a very gifted horsewomen, one that I feel will go far as a trainer for all breeds.

Christa has a caring, compassionate, and common sense way of handling horses.  Her understanding of how horses think gives her an edge in getting them to do what she wants, which is how she taught Jaden not to be afraid of going through stall doors.  I have no hesitation in reccommending Christa.

I was amazed at how quickly my horse responded to Christa, and how quickly she was able to bond with him.  The first time I watched her work with him in the round pen I was very impressed, it was as if I was looking at a completely different horse.
