Fire horses are strong willed. They are driven by a job or task. They find comfort in movement and tend to move in straighter lines than other energy types. They can become over-focused and can have a hard time "letting things go." These horses may be viewed as "lazy" or "excitable", "obstinate", "stubborn", "strong" or "hard-mouthed." They can be flighty because they are highly reactive as opposed to processive (i.e., they tend to rely on instinct more than thinking things through a lot of the time). They can be extremely competitive horses and because they take their jobs seriously, this can be a real asset!
They tend to respond best to someone who shares their sense of purpose and takes things as seriously as they do, but could really benefit from learning to lighten up! These horses learn things like bending and forward impulsion best when they can relate it to a purpose such as cowplay or work with barrels or cones.
Because of their focus and drive, these horses can be hard to stop or to get going. If you become aware of your own dominant element and keep this in mind while you are working with your horse, you will have a better chance at communication. Sometimes it's necessary to "dial up" your other, less dominant, perhaps less comfortable elements in order to maximize your communication
Fire in the rider can mean focus and clarity but can lack compassion and flexibility. The energy is up and forward. This type of rider goes well with Ground or Water horses.
